Because God Gave Her An Angel

"A shy girl," they said,
"A shy girl who was lost."
She wanted to be herself
but they just wouldn't let her

She fought and fought
She cried and cried
She gave up on herself
She felt like a nobody

Until she met you
Until she met God, too

"Be strong and courageous," she told her,
"Don't be afraid," she said
"don't let them break you, don't fall and hide."

She broke out of her shell
She was no longer used
She was no longer hidden
She was no longer lost

You taught her that
You were there for her
You never gave up on her
You taught her everything

She sits and writes
Writes about her dreams
Writes about her past
Forgiving everything

She follows God
She prays to Him
She is saved
She is wanted

"A shy girl," they had said,
"A shy girl who used to be lost."
But no longer will she hide
No longer will she be someone else because of an angel God gave her

To Brittany

Looking back on how we met
I thought you hated me, how much you wanna bet?
But look at us now
We are the best of friends POW :)

Through the laughs and the tears
Through the dreams and the fears
We have helped each other
And never parted from one another

Thank you for all of the jokes and all of the laughs
For being there for me and being my other half
You always tell me to be strong
Because the hurt never lasts for long

Thank you for all of the goofy things you say and do
Because you have "goofball" written ALLLLL over you
Thank you for all of the secrets you have kept
And being there with me with every step

I know the little voice will always be you
Telling me to stay true to myself and never ever be blue
To never ever let us drift apart
And to always have each other in our hearts

Though goodbyes are going to be tough
And the path may be bumpy and rough
Your voice will always carry me through
And I could never ever forget about you

You will always be in my heart
And miles could never keep us apart
You will ALWAYS be my sister, my best friend
Until the very end

"Goodbyes don't last forever, goodbyes are not the end; they simply mean I'll miss you until we meet again"

As we may go off and leave
You all have to stay strong and believe
As we grow apart and find a new start
You all have to promise to keep us in your hearts

While we may be excited, but scared
We will remember all the memories we all shared
While we go on our separate paths
Follow us while we do all of this math

Goodbyes seem like forever and a day
But we promise with won't stray too far away
We will miss you guys way too much
But we promise we will keep in touch

We can never ever forget any of you
Yall have become our best friends, it's true
Stay strong and courageous for us
Our own separate paths, we must

As we go off and leave
Keep on staying strong and believe
Though we may grow apart
Promise to keep us in your hearts

Little Girl All Grown Up

November 24th, the day she was born
"She's going to be a hand full," Grandpa warned
Big Girl is something she would never part
Short little girl from the very start

Blue eyes and bouncing curls
Always playing with her Nana's pearls
Mommy's finger in one hand and Big Girl in the other
Cole Slaw was the only thing she'd eat, oh brother!

Screaming, "Pickin' my nose!" in the grocery store
Rotten to the core
Little Mermaid and Baby Bop
"Once you get her talking, she will never stop"

Walking into Kindergarten with a grin
Roller skates and sit and spins
Singing, "I like it I, love it, I want some more of it"
Slamming cabinets and pitching a fit

Ridy-hi and Rye-Rye were her names
And "one more thing Mariah" is what she became
Birthday parties, sleepovers, and friends galore
A smile, she always wore

Elementary school was gone before their eyes
Daddy's little buddy, she'd never deny
Middle school dances and cute, little crushes
Growing up seemed like such a rush

High school seemed like it dragged along
But in reality, she was wrong
Big dreams of being a math teacher would soon be achieved
She knows she can do it as long as she believes

No longer a little girl
But still "rotten to the core"
Winthrop, Columbia College, who knows
But now she is ready to fly and go
