Goodbyes are the Hardest to Say

They say that goodbyes are the hardest words to say
And they get harder day by day
So it is here that she lays
And it is here that she prays

How is it that a seven letter word
Is the hardest to be heard
Hello would rather be preferred
Or maybe for that word to fly like a bird

She hangs on by a thread
But stays on that road ahead
Goodbye is what she said
But a tear is what she shed

They say that goodbyes are the hardest words to say
But you have helped her not to go astray
You tell her that she'll be okay

And that you're there for her every single day

Transformation of the Marionette

Rip the mask that you bear
Mend the heart of despair
Take the key and open the door
Get off that cold and lonely floor

Break the chains from your wrist
Show the world that you do exist
Wipe the tears off your face
Take it all and erase

Snip the strings from your limbs
Break that smile from its grim
Tear that shell of the stranger
No longer will you be in danger

One by one, two by two
You can do it, only you
Show the light from inside
Take the darkness and confide

You ripped the mask that was worn
And mended the heart that was torn
You opened the door with the key
And now you're ready to be free

Take His hand and He will guide
No longer will you have to choose sides
Trust in Him and He will love
And make sure you fly up above

Because God Gave Her An Angel

"A shy girl," they said,
"A shy girl who was lost."
She wanted to be herself
but they just wouldn't let her

She fought and fought
She cried and cried
She gave up on herself
She felt like a nobody

Until she met you
Until she met God, too

"Be strong and courageous," she told her,
"Don't be afraid," she said
"don't let them break you, don't fall and hide."

She broke out of her shell
She was no longer used
She was no longer hidden
She was no longer lost

You taught her that
You were there for her
You never gave up on her
You taught her everything

She sits and writes
Writes about her dreams
Writes about her past
Forgiving everything

She follows God
She prays to Him
She is saved
She is wanted

"A shy girl," they had said,
"A shy girl who used to be lost."
But no longer will she hide
No longer will she be someone else because of an angel God gave her

To Brittany

Looking back on how we met
I thought you hated me, how much you wanna bet?
But look at us now
We are the best of friends POW :)

Through the laughs and the tears
Through the dreams and the fears
We have helped each other
And never parted from one another

Thank you for all of the jokes and all of the laughs
For being there for me and being my other half
You always tell me to be strong
Because the hurt never lasts for long

Thank you for all of the goofy things you say and do
Because you have "goofball" written ALLLLL over you
Thank you for all of the secrets you have kept
And being there with me with every step

I know the little voice will always be you
Telling me to stay true to myself and never ever be blue
To never ever let us drift apart
And to always have each other in our hearts

Though goodbyes are going to be tough
And the path may be bumpy and rough
Your voice will always carry me through
And I could never ever forget about you

You will always be in my heart
And miles could never keep us apart
You will ALWAYS be my sister, my best friend
Until the very end

"Goodbyes don't last forever, goodbyes are not the end; they simply mean I'll miss you until we meet again"

As we may go off and leave
You all have to stay strong and believe
As we grow apart and find a new start
You all have to promise to keep us in your hearts

While we may be excited, but scared
We will remember all the memories we all shared
While we go on our separate paths
Follow us while we do all of this math

Goodbyes seem like forever and a day
But we promise with won't stray too far away
We will miss you guys way too much
But we promise we will keep in touch

We can never ever forget any of you
Yall have become our best friends, it's true
Stay strong and courageous for us
Our own separate paths, we must

As we go off and leave
Keep on staying strong and believe
Though we may grow apart
Promise to keep us in your hearts

Little Girl All Grown Up

November 24th, the day she was born
"She's going to be a hand full," Grandpa warned
Big Girl is something she would never part
Short little girl from the very start

Blue eyes and bouncing curls
Always playing with her Nana's pearls
Mommy's finger in one hand and Big Girl in the other
Cole Slaw was the only thing she'd eat, oh brother!

Screaming, "Pickin' my nose!" in the grocery store
Rotten to the core
Little Mermaid and Baby Bop
"Once you get her talking, she will never stop"

Walking into Kindergarten with a grin
Roller skates and sit and spins
Singing, "I like it I, love it, I want some more of it"
Slamming cabinets and pitching a fit

Ridy-hi and Rye-Rye were her names
And "one more thing Mariah" is what she became
Birthday parties, sleepovers, and friends galore
A smile, she always wore

Elementary school was gone before their eyes
Daddy's little buddy, she'd never deny
Middle school dances and cute, little crushes
Growing up seemed like such a rush

High school seemed like it dragged along
But in reality, she was wrong
Big dreams of being a math teacher would soon be achieved
She knows she can do it as long as she believes

No longer a little girl
But still "rotten to the core"
Winthrop, Columbia College, who knows
But now she is ready to fly and go

The Girl She Used To Be

She used to walk down this path
Full of hatred and so much wrath
She used to fall and want to hide
Tug-of-war from side to side

She used to be hidden in this mask
Longing questions refused to ask
Hiding her true reflection
Not knowing her destined direction

She used to be this shy, little girl
Trying to fool the whole wide world
But she couldn't fool her heart
No, not from the start

She was torn, but never broken
Too afraid for those words to be spoken
The deadly four-letter word
It would all be slurred

Years crept by and faded away
This girl slowly went astray
But she was caught before it was too late
I guess you could say it was fate

Years have come and years have gone
No longer feeling withdrawn
They opened up her eyes
And she could finally rip off that disguise

She is now reassured
Her heart is now fully cured
Because of the gift she received
She is now determind and relieved

Goodbyes seem like forever
But she knows that they will never
Never grow apart
Because you two will always be in her heart

No Longer...

No longer was she scared
No longer was she unprepared
No longer was she hiding in a mask
No longer were there questioning unasked

No longer was she afraid to speak
No longer did she feel useless and weak
No longer did she have all those fears
No longer was her face covered with tears

No longer was she confused and broken
No longer were her words unspoken
No longer was her head down low
No longer did she not even know

No longer was she in disguise
No longer could you see the pain in her eyes
No longer did she have an empty path
No longer was she fillled with wrath

No longer was she in a hurry
No longer was her life so blurry
No longer was she afraid to fly
And no longer was she afraid to say goodbye

No More...

No more silence, no more fears
No more faces with the tears
No more smiles without the laughs
No more hearts with just one half

No more hugs without the kisses
No more misters without the misses
No more fights throughout the night
No more stars that are not bright

No more kites without the wind
No more hearts that cannot mend
No more songs without the tune
No more stars without the moon

No more friends that grow apart
No more ends without the fresh start
No more sorrow, no more hurt
No more hugs without the comfort

No more heads that are low
No more goodbyes without the hellos
No more friends that don't belong
And no more rights attached to the wrong

One More...

One more rhyme
Just one more time
She feels just like a mime
Trying to burst out of this chime

One more story
Just one more joy
She feels like a gloomy glory
Trying to hide all of the sorry

One more fight
Just one more night
She wishes she can take a flight
Trying to figure wrong from right

One more level
Just one more revel
She feels like the study of medieval
Trying to fight this little devil

One more goodbye
Just one more reply
She feels like a bird in the sky
Trying to spread its wings and fly

I Am...

I am a daughter, a sister, a friend
I am the hands that lend
I am the path that never ends
I am hopeful and determined

I am a daughter of a man who regrets
I am the dancer in the silhouette
I am the math problem that you can't forget
I am creative and passionate

I am a sister who is stuck inbetween
I am the dark that can be seen
I am the fighting machine
I am faithful and serene

I am a friend that belongs
I am the melody to the song
I am the right that is sewed to the wrong
I am courageous and strong

I am a daughter who once had to fight
I am the bird ready to go on its flight
I am the string attached to the kite
I am thankful and polite

I am a spitting image of my mother
I am the fighter, the pusher, the shover
I am no longer hovered
I am lost, but somehow discovered

I am a girl that rips off her disguise
I am the fibber with the lies
I am the one with the blue eyes
I am stubborn and wise

I am the "daughter" of two strong and loyal women
I am the how, the why, the what, the when
I am the sinner fighting the sin
I am opinionated and confident

I am a girl ready to fly
I am the tears attached to the goodbye
I am the bird soaring in the sky
I am untangled and untied

I am a girl who used to be shy
I am Christmas in July
I am the fate in the eye
I am me, myself, and I

Untangled and Untied

A shy girl she once became
A smile she would try to frame
She was trapped and insecure
She was blank and unsure

Herself she tried to disguise
But you could look behind those blue eyes
Those eyes would never lie
And she would always wonder why

She soon became aware
That she could rip that mask she bares
She knew there was someone out there
She just had to open up and share

She knew she found that someone
Now she knew she was done
Done trying to hide
She became untangled and untied

Years have passed and gone astray
Right beside her you have stayed
You have taught her so many things
And now she's ready to spread her wings

She is no longer insecure
She's strong and reassured
She rips off that ugly mask
Wrenching questions no longer asked

She's going down that straight and narrow path
And she's done with all this math
Goodbyes seem forever and a day
But she will never be too far away

Ready To Fly

"You are brave, but you don't believe so"
A lot of people tell her
"You are wonderful, but you don't realize how"
She doesn't want to know

She used to be shy
She used to be lost
She used to alone
All she needed to do is fly

She learned to stand strong
She learned to stand firm
She learned to stand ready
It took her so long

She was no longer hurt
She was no longer alone
She was no longer lost
Because she had you for comfort

She will always have a friend in you
You have become her rock
You have become her strength
You have become her courage, too

But now she needs to fly
And she's ready to go
She's ready to go on that path
And say goodbye
